Jan Frazier loves being outdoors, animals and gardening! Even as a teenager she was taking her watercolors outside trying to paint the Kentucky countryside. She majored in art at the University of Kentucky in the 70’s and earned her degree in art education but yearned to have some real fine art teaching.
Jan married and her husband and she moved to Austin, Texas where she discovered Pastels and fell in love with the medium. She attended workshops and read “how to” books.
Jan’s real growth came when she lived in New York and was able to attend THE Woodstock School of Art for two years. It made all the difference as she began to understand value, color temperature and relationships, aerial perspective, and painting plein-air in both oil and pastel painting.
Over the years Jan’s style has become somewhat impressionistic as she works in layers and often focuses on complimentary colors. Her art simply reflects how she feels about the beautiful world around her wherever she lives or travels. It brings her peace and she hopes it does for you, too.
